Mote, Otto and Ozola get hot, RSU clinch first win


Māra Mote, Evelīna Otto and Katrīna Ozola scored 18 points in the third quarter to spark a 27-11 run which resulted in a 92-59 RSU win over Šiauliai Vilmers on Sunday, December 18, at the Olympic Sports center in Rīga, Latvia.

RSU front court players showed their versatility.


Katrīna Ozola was efficient at both ends of the court.


Center scored 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field.

Ozola grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out four assists and blocked three shots for a tied game high efficiency rating of 24.

Evelīna Otto also posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.


A young center from Ventspils stole the ball twice and forced a team high four fouls for a efficiency rating of 24.

Māra Mote made 5-of-7 three point attempts in the second half.


A 2021 NCAA finalist had 18 points, four assists and three steals.

Enija Vīksne pulled the strings as she dished out eight assists and stole the ball three times.

RSU point guard scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Luīze Šepte filled the stat sheet with six points, seven rebounds and four assists.


Home team captain registered a game high six steals.


Rūta Stiprā led Šiauliai/Vilmers with 16 points.

Latvian power forward contributed with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.


Morgan Lenahan chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.


A former Wagner player stole the ball twice.


Key stats

The first foul was called in the eighth minute.

And one plays by Rūta Stiprā and Kamile Berenyte gave early lead for Šiauliai 18-20.


It didn`t lasted for long as RSU took control in the paint.


The stage hosts grabbed numerous offensive rebounds in the second quarter and scored second chance points.


RSU front court players Ozola and Otto made three consecutive free throws for a double digit lead 35-24.


Māra Mote added three more three pointers early in the second half for a 15 points lead 52-37.


A series of turnovers and unsportsmanlike foul led to more troubles for Šiauliai 66-42.


Evelīna Otto, Katrīna Ozola and Māra Mote combined for 57 points as RSU sailed away.

Matīss Rožlapa`s team outrebounded the opponents 51-38 and scored more second chance points 24-13.


Šiauliai were short of reserves too as the RSU bench outscored them 29-11.


Game notes

RSU played without injured Alise Bruzinska.


Rīga team posted its first win in the EWBL.


Both teams still have chances to qualify for the Final 4.
