Polonia Warszawa dominate in the paint, improve to 5-0

SKK Polonia Warszawa stayed behind for most of the time but never stopped the hunt and used its supremacy in the paint to beat TTT Rīga 74-70 on Sunday, December 11, at the Daugava sports hall in Rīga, Latvia.

Polonia Warszawa showed its depth throughout the game.


Andreona Keys had a poor shooting in the first half but found other ways how to score.

Purdue standout led the charge in the paint to finish the game with 18 points, including a 8-of-9 shooting from the free throw line.

Polonia guard filled the stat sheet with six rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block shot.

Keys forced seven fouls and registered a tied game high efficiency rating of 20.

Klaudia Sosnowska proved her versatility.

Polish forward had 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals.


Sosnowska earned an efficiency rating of 20.



Jessica Jackson added more fire power in the paint.


Arkansas power forward had several “and one” drives to finish the game with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting inside the three point line.


Jackson scored 12 points in the second half.

Anna Pawlowska provided a threat from the deep and penetrated TTT defenses closer to the basket too.

She took care of the ball handling in the second half.


Pawlowska had 10 points and five assists.


Angeliki Vintsilaiou scored nine points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out five assists and stole the ball three times.


Greek international posted those numbers in less than 19 minutes before she injured her right hand.


Emilia Kośla shined again for TTT Rīga.

A Warsaw born guard scored a game high 20 points and forced eight fouls for a 9-of-10 shooting from the free throw line.


Kośla added six rebounds, four assists and three steals.


Kate Vilka sparked a 9-2 run in the first quarter.


Shooting guard scored 17 points, including a 6-of-10 effort from the charity stripe.

Vilka forced seven fouls as well.


Katrīna Trankale made all four field goal attempts, including a 3-of-3 shooting from the deep.


Liepāja native finished the game with 11 points and a team high efficiency rating of 16.



Key stats

TTT players connected 9-of-16 three pointers in the first half for a 13 point lead 30-43.


Vilka, Trankale and Estere Petrus made multiple shots each.

Polonia outscored TTT in the paint 42-16 (first half 18-6) but trailed for most of the way.



Continuous effort in the paint finally paid off.

Warszawa team had multiple finishers even after Vintsilaiou got injured – Sosnowska, Keys, Pawlowska, Jackson and Andjelina Radič.


Czarne Koszule tied the game at 53.


Keys made a go-ahead basket in the last seconds of the third quarter 58-57.

TTT regained a 58-62 advantage.


Polonia Warszawa replied with a 9-0 run for a 67-62 lead.


The Poles never trailed again despite TTT comeback attempts.


Kate Vilka forced a foul in her last drive and split the free throws to make it a single possession game with 10,7 seconds on the clock 73-70.


Baško made a defensive stop and fouled out with 4,0 seconds left.


Keys split the free throws to seal the game.



Game notes

Polonia Warszawa posted a 2-0 record in the winter wonderland.


A 5-0 record places the Czarne Koszule in a pole-position.


TTT improved its positions too as the Rigans have a 2-0 record against the Czech teams.


Both teams so far have better results in the EWBL than in their national championships.
