Sosnowska and Williams unstoppable, first title for Polonia Warszawa

Polonia Warszawa wasted a 17 points lead but finished the game with a 12-1 run to beat Frankivsk Prykarpattya, 66-56, and claim the 2024 EWBL Cup on Saturday, March 19, at the Centrum Sportu Wilanow.

Two frontcourt players stood out for Polonia Warszawa.


Klaudia Sosnowska led the hosts with 20 points on 7/15 shooting from the field and a perfect 6/6 from the free throw line.


Power forward grabbed six rebounds and dished out seven assists.


Sosnowska had two steals and five forced fouls for efficiency rating of 25

Zada Williams posted 19 points on 7/8 shooting from the field and 5/6 from the charity stripe.


Florida standout registered a game high 12 rebounds.


Center filled the stat sheet with one assist, two steals and one block for a efficiency rating of 30.


Williams was named the 2024 EWBL Most Valuable Player.



Anna Pawlowska and Marta Mistygacz scored eight point each.


Captain and playmaker Pawlowska added seven assists.


Oksana Mollova was a top scorer for Frankivsk Prykarpattya.


Forward finished with 20 points on 8/22 shooting from the field and 2/2 from the free throw line.



Bogdana Lapkhan scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half.


She went 4/6 from the three point line after the break.


Krystyna Filevich played all 40 minutes.


She finished with six points, nine rebounds and four assists.


Frankivsk captain Olha Alekseichyk checked out with three points and four assists.




Key stats

Frankivsk Prykarpattya used a six player rotation.


Four starters – Alekseichyk, Mollova, Filevich and Daria Kononunchenko – played 37 or more minutes.


Polonia Warszawa also had a main rotation with six players.


Klaudia Sosnowska, Anna Pawlowska and Zada Williams played more than 34 minutes each.


Sosnowska and Williams outscored Frankivsk in the first half, 24-21.


Dynamic frontcourt duo shot 9/11 from the field during the first 20 minutes.


Oksana Mollova answered with 12 points on 5/15 shooting from the field.


The rest of Frankivsk players combined for 3/17.


Polonia Warszawa had a 15 points lead at the half, 36-21.



Bogdana Lapkhan saved the day for Frankivsk as she hit four three pointers in the second half.


Mollova added two more shots from the deep while Filevich had several steals.


A final three pointer by Lapkhan gave the visitors a 54-55 lead with 05:04 to go.


It was the last field goal for Frankivsk as they missed the last five shots, while being outrebounded on both end of the floor.


Four consecutive points by Klaudia Sosnowska regained a 58-56 lead for Polonia Warszawa.


Marta Mistygacz scored the last five points in her final basketball game.




Game notes

Polonia Warszawa finished the 2024 EWBL season with a 5-0 record.


The Black Shirts have won all five games against Frankivsk.


Jerome Fournier has a 5-0 record in the EWBL.


Polonia Warszawa is the first club from Poland who has won the EWBL title.


Frankivsk Prykarpattya and Yurii Protsiyk ended their second season with silver medals – their best result so far.
